Rock Creek Scale Models takes its name from the Rock Creek trestle bridge, a structure representative of early twentieth-century American railroading, nestled in California’s scenic Feather River Canyon. Built by the Western Pacific Railroad in 1909 as part of its ambitious entry into the transcontinental rail network, the bridge spans 404 feet in length and rises 125 feet above Rock Creek. Its steel design features a 130-foot Warren deck truss and six open-deck plate girder spans ranging from 30 to 56 feet. The line through the canyon was an engineering achievement and soon became one of the most spectacular and celebrated passenger rail routes in the United States. The bridge remains easily accessible from State Highway 70 between Portola and Oroville—just west of the iconic Keddie Wye—and continues to inspire our commitment to prototypical accuracy and scale realism.
